From the Desk of Secretary Treasurer Tom Quackenbush

    Dear Brothers and Sisters,

It gives me great pleasure to let you know our Local is as financially sound as it has ever been.  Although the Mergers of Local 669 and 182 into our Local initially caused a bit of a strain, our local has seen its assets grow!

Good fiscal practices, prudent managerial decisions that have been implemented and teamwork throughout the office have attributed to our Local having current assets at almost $1.9 Million dollars.

All of these things have allowed us to leverage our financial strength to benefit our members with strong contracts, arbitration procedures, and growing through organizing. We continue to have some of the strongest contracts in our industries with the best wages and language.

With President Bulgaro’s leadership, a strong financial discipline, proper budgeting, and the team effort we have…. I see great things happening for the future of our local!

  • Clare Rose on Strike
    Updated On: May 16, 2017

Local 812, is in a struggle with Clare Rose, a privately owned Long Island beer distributor of Budweiser, Bud Light and related brands, to preserve good jobs and benefits in the beverage industry.  To date, the company has said that they believe we are at impasse and they imposed their draconian final offer which left our members no alternative but to strike. The company has since indicated that they plan to permanently replace our members

On behalf of the 130 members employed at Clare Rose, we are asking for your support.   Clare Rose is one of the largest beverage distributors in the country and our union has represented its workers for many years. Labor relations have steadily deteriorated since the third generation of the Rose family took the helm in recent years.

Clare Rose is a very profitable, but instead of rewarding workers for their efforts, the Company is demanding:

    • A 30% Reduction in Wages
    • Elimination of the Defined Benefit Pension Plan
    • Elimination of a Long-standing Salary Continuation Program
    • Elimination of Disability Payments

Many of the Local 812 members who deliver, sell and merchandise Clare Rose products, have held their jobs for decades. They simply could not continue to support their families or retire with security with the contract that Clare Rose is offering. Furthermore, Local 812 won’t allow this Company to erode the high standards that generations of union members have fought for in the beverage industry. Clare Rose has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer-funded Industrial Development Agency benefits.  Yet they chose to use out of state non-union labor to build their new headquarters.  Now they want to drastically reduce the compensation of their workforce while collecting public subsidies. We need your help to win this fight. Any Support you can give would be greatly appreciated in the effort to fight for the working class.
